Creating different design projects using the same elements
For this task I created 6 different design projects, each with a different topic and each made up of a sequence of 8 thumbnail boxes, representing the meaning of the given topic.
The aim of this project is to create in each small box a different composition by using always the same elements: black squares (without changing their shape or colour).
All squares are placed in the composition keeping in mind the negative space, the tension, the relationship with all the other squares and between the subject and the ground.
I only changed the size and angle of rotation of the squares and then mixed them together to create a pattern, a symmetrical and asymmetrical image, an abstract concept and so on, to better represent the topic. For example, for the "Bold" series of images, I referred to the two main meanings of the world "bold":
1) Bold in the sense of having a clear, steady and strong appearance (referring to an image, font, colour, shape or design element)
2) Being courageous, strong and confident (referring to a person for example)
That said, I created among the others, a clear and bold shape of a crown, symbolizing the confidence, power, courage and boldness of a king.
On the other hand, for the topic "tension", I created a series of images representing objects in precarious balance, one on the edge of the other, as if they were about to fall.
After that, I chose only one composition per topic (the one which I believe best represents that particular topic) and placed them in the larger boxes.
I chose to represent the topic "order" by using a big square at the center of the thumbnail and then 3 small squares on the corners.
For the topic "increase" I placed the 4 squares in sequence, on the diagonal line of the thumbnail, and each one of them is the double of the size of the previous square.
I made the illustration of a bold man by placing the 4 squares to create the body, the head and two small ears.
For the topic "congested", I placed four big squares in disorder and leaving little white space around them to give the idea of a busy and congested space.
The squares in the "Tension" thumbnail box are placed one on top of the other and on the edge or each square, as if they were about to fall down, while for the "playful" topic, I placed two bigger squares under the two smaller ones to create the outline of a building.
