Blog Review Workshop

Updated: Mar 14

Giving and receiving feedback in class, related to blog content, design and management, what works, what doesn't what can be improved, what topics are valuable, what are superfluous, to help drive blogs forward.

ANALYSING OTHER STUDENTS' BLOGS

Below are some reflections on details and content of other students' blogs which I find particularly interesting:

  • Introduction of a separate page for new vocabulary and technical words (labelled as Glossary - very smart!)

  • Photo layouts/moodboards and galleries

  • Colour palette - soft, warm colours, I like the fact that the background of the website is not pure white, it's more of a warm beige colour, which is less tiring for the eyes. Although the text is not pure black either, it is a dark grey, it creates good contrast with background, so reading through the content of the page is easy and relaxing.

  • at the beginning of each post, they included a few dot points which summarise the content of the page, like a small index. So I think this could be a good strategy I could use as well, to organise content and show to readers what to expect of that post (especially when there is a lot of content to go through).

  • All photos and screenshots are further explained by written reflections and thoughts on design process, thinking and methods applied.

  • Someone else also reused the previous blog he had used for other studio classes, I did the same. I think it's a good way to keep track of your academic, design and creative process and growth throughout these 3 years at RMIT. It's an interesting way of keeping track of all the different classes you took part in, the different topics explored and measure how much progress you've made so far!

  • Someone wrote a lot of notes and writings about how each colour resonates with them, what it makes them feel like and why, labelling each paragraph like "How I feel about *this colour*; "How I feel about Saturation, hue value and brightness "

Nicole's Blog:

  • good use of animations, enough to add both decoration and further meaning to her audiovisual website, but not too much that gets readers too distracted from the important content.

  • I like how the website is visually layered into different layers, giving a sense of verticality to the website. Each page has a bigger animation or image in the background, then a smaller white rectangle used as background and negative space for all blog posts.

Renalyn's Blog:

  • Interactive and animated elements are awesome! I like the black background as well. I just feel like, at least for the desktop version, the menu bar is too high (takes about 7cm from the top to almost the middle of the screen), so it makes it hard to scroll down and see the content below that.

  • it looks very creative! I love the textures, they look so handmade and colourful, very pretty!
