For this task, I made a video based on the storyboard I created last week (which I also uploaded in one of the previous posts).
The video has the same shots and VO as the first Digital Design Project I made and uploaded to the first post of this blog.
The concept behind this project is to mix up the shots from the video "Alice's Wonderland" with the music and sounds from the video "This is Marshall McLuhan: The Medium is the Message". I chose to edit together these two videos because they have similar features and characteristics, especially in their meaning.
1) They are both set in the 20th Century.
2) Alice's Wonderland is about the creation of cartoon and animated videos as a new form of communication;
3) "This is Marshall McLuhan: The Medium is the Message" talks about new technologies and new mediums in the 20th Century (and TV and animation were a new means of communication at the time).
The idea behind the editing process is to create a video were music and images coming from different contexts, work together to convey the same message. For example, every time the narrator changes topic, images too change location, characters and rhythm in order to fit in the context.
Both shots and sound have been cut and mixed in order to fit together correctly and create a temporal and visual continuity throughout the whole video.
I also added a few royalty-free sounds at the beginning of the video, when the girl is knocking on the door of the studio before going in.
The only effects I used to edit this 2 minute video are: cut, fade to white and to black and fade out (for the sound).
